Hi, I’m Brenton. I work on Clabrate at nights and weekends, with a few AI agents helping out.
I’m around AI evaluations all day, so this stuff is on my radar. Mac’s built-in dictation is alright, but it has quirks that make you lose your train of thought. I’d seen newer dictation apps that looked fast — words landing as you speak — though I hadn’t used them myself. What actually got to me was the voice modes bolted onto other apps: pause for a second and they auto-send, before you’ve finished the thought. Then you have to pick it back up and get going again.
So I figured I’d build my own. Partly for the challenge, partly because building it myself was the only way to get it exactly how I wanted. It waits as long as I want it to, and nothing cuts me off. I’ve used it every day since. These days I barely type — I talk through problems with my AI agents, and I dump half-formed thoughts into Slack and let Clabrate clean them up.
On privacy: I didn’t want my voice leaving my machine just to come back as text, so it doesn’t. Transcription runs on your Mac. Enhancement can too, or you can plug in your own cloud key when you want more power. No telemetry either way.
