Clabrate — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 5 July 2026 · Contact: support@clabrate.com
The short version
Clabrate is private by design. Your speech, transcripts, and the text you work with are processed on your Mac and stored on your Mac. We do not run analytics or tracking, we do not collect your dictation or usage, we do not show ads, and we never sell your data. The only information that leaves your device is the minimum needed to validate your license, to download AI models and app updates, and anything you explicitly opt into (such as a cloud AI provider). That’s it.
What stays on your device
By default, all core features — speech-to-text, enhancement, and the assistant — run locally on your Mac. The following are stored only on your device and are never sent to us:
- Audio you dictate and its transcripts;
- Your history, dictionaries/substitutions, settings, and preferences (in a local database on your Mac);
- Local performance metrics the app records to show you your own stats (local-only; not transmitted);
- Your cloud-provider API keys (if you add any), kept in the macOS Keychain — encrypted by macOS, never written to disk in plaintext by Clabrate.
You can delete this data at any time from within the app or by removing the app’s data.
What the app connects to, and why
Clabrate makes outbound network connections only for these purposes:
- Downloading AI models. On first run (and when you add models), the app downloads model files from third-party sources (e.g., Hugging Face, GitHub). These requests go directly to those providers; their privacy policies apply to the download. We do not host a copy of the model weights and receive no data from these downloads.
- App updates. The app checks for and downloads updates from updates.clabrate.com (served via Cloudflare). Checks run automatically at launch and about once a day; you can turn automatic checks off in Settings → General & Privacy → Updates (checks never run before you finish onboarding). Our hosting/CDN may log standard technical request metadata (such as IP address and timestamp) as part of normal operation. No personal content is sent.
- License validation. To keep your license active, the app periodically contacts our licensing provider, Polar, sending only your license key and a hashed device identifier — never your dictation, transcripts, or usage. (Polar is also our Merchant of Record for purchases; see “Payments”.)
- Optional cloud AI providers. Cloud AI is off by default and opt-in. If you choose to enable a cloud provider (currently Google Gemini), the input you submit for that request is sent to the provider you selected, under that provider’s privacy policy. If you instead connect a local provider you run yourself (e.g., Ollama or LM Studio), that processing happens on your machine and nothing is sent to us.
macOS permissions
Clabrate may ask for Microphone, Accessibility, Input Monitoring, and (optionally) Screen Recording permissions. These are used locally to make the app work — capture your voice, type text at your cursor, detect the dictation key, and (optionally) read on-screen context. Data captured via these permissions is processed on your device and is not transmitted to us.
What we do NOT do
- No third-party analytics, telemetry, advertising, or tracking SDKs.
- No selling or sharing of your personal data.
- No collection of your dictation content, transcripts, or in-app usage.
Payments
Purchases are processed by Polar acting as Merchant of Record. Polar collects the billing and payment information needed to complete your purchase and handle taxes, under Polar’s privacy policy. We receive only limited order and license information (such as your license key and order status) needed to provide and support the Software.
Diagnostic logs
Clabrate can generate a diagnostic log at your request to help troubleshoot issues. The log is saved locally on your Mac and is not sent anywhere unless you choose to share it with us for support. Because such a log can contain text you dictated, please review it before sharing.
Website
Our website (clabrate.com) is a static site hosted on Cloudflare. It does not use cookies or analytics. Cloudflare may log standard technical request metadata as part of serving the site.
Children
Clabrate is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Your rights
Because nearly all of your data stays on your own device, you already control it directly — you can view, export, or delete it within the app. For the limited data we or our providers process (license and purchase information), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete it under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA; contact us at support@clabrate.com and we’ll help (for payment data, requests may be directed to Polar).
Data retention
On-device data is retained until you delete it. Limited license and order information is retained as long as needed to provide the Software, support you, and meet legal/accounting obligations.
International processing
If you download models from, or opt into cloud providers operated in, other countries, your requests are processed there under those providers’ terms.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. Material changes will be reflected here with a new “Last updated” date and, where appropriate, surfaced in the app.
