Privacy isn’t a setting in Clabrate — it’s the default. Your voice, your transcripts, and your text are processed and stored on your Mac. This page lays out exactly what stays local and the short list of things that ever leave.
Private by design: Speech is transcribed on-device. There are no analytics, no tracking, and no ads. Clabrate never sells your data, and you don't need an account to dictate.
What stays on your Mac
- Your voice. Audio is transcribed locally using on-device, Apple-silicon-accelerated models. It isn’t streamed to a server.
- Your transcripts and inserted text. The words you dictate live on your machine.
- Your history. Dictation and assistant history is stored locally in Clabrate’s own database — and you can turn it off or clear it any time (see History & insights).
- Your insights. The Home metrics are computed locally from your local history. Nothing is uploaded to produce them.
What leaves the device
Only a few things, and most are unavoidable plumbing:
- App and model downloads — fetching Clabrate updates and the speech/AI models from our servers.
- License validation — confirming your purchase (a device-bound key stored in your macOS Keychain), with an offline grace period.
- Anything you explicitly opt into — most importantly, choosing a cloud AI model like Gemini. If you do, the specific text being enhanced or the question you ask is sent to that provider so it can respond. The on-device models keep everything local.
Your choice: Clabrate works fully offline in its default mode. Cloud providers are an opt-in convenience, never a requirement — and you can stay 100% on-device if you prefer.
Where your history lives
History is a local database on your Mac. In Settings → Privacy & setup you can:
- Toggle history capture on or off.
- Delete individual entries or clear everything.
Support logs never include secrets
If you export a debug log to help with a support issue (via the hidden Developer page), it is redacted — it never contains your API keys or your transcripts.
Common questions
Does it work offline? Yes — the default on-device mode needs no internet once the speech model is downloaded.
What if I use Gemini? Then the text for that specific request goes to Google’s API. Everything else stays local. Use an on-device model to avoid this entirely.
Where are my API keys stored? In the macOS Keychain, not in Clabrate’s database or any log.
